Last spring, the ACLU filed grievances with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to investigate “the systemic failure to hire women directors at all levels of the film and television industry.” In November, a New York Times Magazine cover story revealed the industry’s deep-rooted hostility toward women, particularly women of color, with ambitions to direct.
